Also be aware that data may be required by US federal authorities if held in the US or by a US company outside the US.

Some external services are endorsed by the University Computing Service for University use, but others are not.  Advice on storing and sharing personal data can be found at https://help.uis.cam.ac.uk/service/security/cyber-security-awareness/personal-data.  In addition remember that if you use web-based tools (Dropbox, Twitter, personal blogs etc) you are bound by the terms of use of the service and are personally responsible for your use.
